The weather wasnt great this week, mates were due to fly in last Sat and the company reckoned they wouldn't be able to fly until today (Wednesday), and then next 2 days are wet again. So they canned it.

We went in last week highland. Not gonna mention where sorry but had a few roaring most mornings and bumped into some more while bush stalking. Seems like the best of the roar was well over by now though. Great times all the same.

Surely some others on here hunted those haast or wanaka ballot blocks and have some stories to tell?

We went in 3rd Period, did a couple days on the tops, probably should have stayed up there longer in hindsight, then down to the valley floor, not much roaring about a dozen deer seen including a ripper 12pointer that just wouldn’t stop or turn for my mate to get a shot away, 2 yearlings shot, 1 stag missed. Not much roaring, came out a day early as the weather was going bad for a few days, the inreach was very handy.

Local pilot said there were a few good heads shot.
