GPMG or Gimpy as we used to call it...the machine gun of choice. I still remember hours of fun chewing down brick walls and reaching out by 1000yds. Only real bastard was carrying it - especially when tabbing.Ah what it is to be young again

GPMG is THE mg of choice. Its not too bad tabbing with it, its being No2 that is the shite job, bloody ammo bearer. It was a bastard tabbing with it in SF mode, bloody tripod left a callus on my neck that lasted years . Interestingly our GPMGs worked with the german non disintegrating link too. Just knocked the wee lump of metal off the feed tray

I always resented the fact that the marines kept the bren. It was old but a bloody good gun, accurate and lighter than the gpmg. One thing that was a bastard with the gpmg was swapping the barrel when some tosser had been happy on the trigger and blown it.

The Bren is timeless. When the old 'eli' gun was about the bren mags were the dogs balls. All you had to do was double spring them to ensure that they would feed and you had a big mag for it. I thought Para reg kept the bren (with the 7.62 barrel (cant remember if it was L26)).

Any of you lads had a go with the new MG42? I'm not sure what its new designation is but the only one I've seen was a nice piece of work, typical german made, still has that high rpm though!
