How many folks chain there dogs from a pup on wards or do you prefer kennels ? Be interested in any setup pictures. Got a pup coming in the future. As a young fella all my dogs were chained and I don't remember any issues but times have changed Cheers

mine gets chained to her kennel when we not home...has run of section when we are..... the only advantage to being inside kennel vs on chain is if another dog gets into section and decides to eat yours.....

Kennel with small run above chain. No worries about a chain if its used sparingly. Theres a lot of mistreatment associated with over use of chains and under stimulation, or healthy daily routines for dogs. They have to stretch their legs and minds every day too.
Id not think thats a problem with the people posting here, but it does exist, more the types with a feed and forget mindset.
This is the sort of setup I use. Mine is a bit roomier than in the pic. A generous side door on the kennel bit to get in easily for a spring clean is handy to.
Ive also laid a couple of sheets of corrugated iron over the top with a generous '' brim'' around the edges to keep rain out and laid concrete block on top to hold it down. Watch out at the front though with overhanging corrugates iron. When you bend over to unlatch the front entrance a bad cut on the forehead is programmed.

agree, then the other end of the spectrum is to much freedom, the fkn neighbors dog has a whole section to use it dosn't get a lot of interaction from humans .....

Out of curiosity, what sort of dog is it. Does it ever leave the section. Does it bark and run at everything that passes by or is reclusive and not interested in much at all.

Both. But I always “do the worst first” and get them used to being tied up before progressing to a run. Also, I was told by an old shepherd that putting a young pup into a wooden run stuffs up their feet. Not sure if it’s true but I can see how it could be better for a growing pup to have its feet on actual dirt. If a dogs tied up you need to make sure it has shade and can’t get its chain tangled or knock its water over.
