Thanks for that.
I have never hunted the rusa, are there any other types of deer cohabitating or do the rusa keep them away?

Iíve seen 1 rusa stag when I was hunting on Maungapohatu Marae about 15 years ago - he chased a group of red hinds off a pad then stood there for about 10 minutes while I tried to get mates vectored in on radio. I was sitting on the Meeting house steps watching across the valley- he ghosted off while I was looking down at the radio. Magnificent animal

yep  theres reds and sambar west of the rangitaiki river, Ive heard rumours that the rusa chase the reds out in the winter, but I think its more that its too hard country for the reds in the winter, they move back in about now, the red stag I got was the first red I have seen there in the winter

Never a bad day when you are seeing deer. Especially in that country. Nice.
