Red hind out by road Kaimais 12pm

Looked to be at least 3 year old. In a paddock beside the main road. It caught my eye as I was driving past as it was standing front on still. I stopped, turned around, it was still there and eventually bounced away back towards the big hills jumping fence after fence.

Amazing a wild animal out in the sunshine at midday.

Where was it? Hint: within a km of the place where there is all the tracks and cabling from the gold rush years.

Kind regards,
Lawrence

It is much better to Hit the Animal in the right place, with a Rifle you can shoot well, then to hit it poorly with a Large Calibre..John Nosler

Didnít think there was cabling around Mt Te Aroha.

All the cabling Iíve seen in there from gold rush was Wairongomai or Waitawheta.

Road side deer....

With the amount of deer out there and at this particular time of the year there must be others on this forum who are seeing deer regularly from the road? Maybe some parts of the country are better than other parts?

Perhaps they might care to post some specific generic information?    Smiley

Iím seeing mobs of fallow out all hours during day where I go, up to 30 in a group, more usually 2-6 animals Busy roads, a noisey quarry including blasting, lots of farm activity - fallow especially seem to be able to live closer than youíd think. Grandads book On Fallow has some great insights as well.

+1

No need to talk about where these deer are specifically.  NZ is where they are....
if you know your geography and what deer like, you will find them...

And then you have to politely knock on some doors if you want one Wink
