Hi guys, just wondering since been late in the season, how many is to many decoys,The reason I ask, scouted a couple of place and were holding about 60 odd birds, they were there in the mornings,So the last two mornings been out,and didn’t get any the ducks seem to land all over the place, not even close to the decoys??,Are they just been decoy shy,got three dozen full bodies out,no spinning decoys,Any help would be greatfull
you doing good no spinners this late in season BUT have you any movement or do you have 36 toy soldiers standing to attention???? my best bird attracting decoy is a old taiwanese black duck with a hole drilled through end of bill, nylon runs through this down to weight or stake in mud then back to maimai....pull of nylon makes decoy tip up,stick bum in air..keep pulling and it bobs around making all sorts of ripples, let it go it pops back up and settles.gentle pull has it bobbing, making ripples. two of these set out amoung the others as far apart as practicle seems to work best.alternate which one is bobbing so ducks switch where they looking.this opening the water was too far down to use them...eg too far from maimai to water to run nylon...and we paid price for them not being in action, birds didnt commit the same as normal.
another old trick is to put your 30 decoys out as normal but set 6 out and sit on the 6...preferably with movement in them...birds will look at the 30 and go yeah nah and drop into the smaller set.

Sorry for not replying,Went out on Sunday morning, there was three hunters,It’s was on a sweed paddock, where sheep had been, put blinds up against the fence so not out in the mud to much,Decoys were 20 paces from blinds,So tried some of the tips,Put 12 full bodies left and 12 decoys right of the blinds in a loose bunch put 6 in the middle as if they had landed,it seem to work well, all the ducks were shot in front of us trying to land in six decoys,we ended up with 22 mallards and 7 parries, thanks for the advice,Also used 2 3/4 inch 32gr #5 shot steel,it was a duck killer, some birds were out to 30 odd meters dead as, ;) :)

They are gamebore super steel,I got them from H&J smith gun city, here in invercargill,I’m not sure if hunting and fishing got any,I used some 7.5 steel yesterday on some pigeons, they were ideal for the first close shot,Just remember the bigger the shot size the tighter the pattern,, ,How do we get photos up now, since photobucket has gone silly,
