Chris Zeisler died at 7pm yesterday 26-3-20 .He died in Auckland Hospital from bone cancer in his spine and other associated complications . Zig worked in the firearms trade most of his life . For many years he was part owner and manager of Sportways Gunshed in Auckland , and lately the sales manager for Beretta New Zealand . He was a keen fisherman, game bird shooter and deer stalker .
Many of you would have seen him duck shooting on the NZ Hunter TV programme and in the Hunting and Fishing catalogue. I have known Zig for 43 years and worked for him for 20 , I will sorely miss him and will always value his friendship , knowledge , kindness and sense of humour .
I will miss him .

Shooting is the most fun you can legally have with your clothes on .

Damn! this news shocked me. Great guy, knowledgeable, humorous and friendly. I first knew Chris from the "Gunshed " days, always looked forward to seeing him at  the Sika Show in recent years.
Rest peacefully  "Mr. Z ".

Sad news indeed. Ziggy added a bit of humour alright to the duck shooting segments. First met him in Auckland at Sportsway back in the day. RIP.

Terrible news, I have known Chris since the early 70's at Sportsways in the city, where he worked with Peter Faithfull and the late Maurice Keogh.
Top guy, always welcoming into the shop and very knowledgeable.
Where has the last 48 years gone???
The end of an era, RIP Chris.
Condolences to his family,
Mal Garner.

Gone way to soon .......

I can just imagine the banter between him & Johnny Nick ..somewhere in the eternal happy hunting grounds ...shooting on a pond with LEAD...no limit ....no season and the best gundogs working the birds for them....

Ziggy ..you were and always will be a great man of field and stream ...you loved the outdoors and camp fire stories ...we will miss you more than you will ever know ...proud to have shouldered a gun beside you mate ..

NZ Hunter adventures dedicated last nights show to his memory and will do same next week.
watching Ziggy coach those young lads and boost thier confidence levels so well showed what a great coach he was.if you missed last nights show, look it up.the show last year with old vs new technology was one of the best duck shooting shows ever...Ziggys humour was no small part of that.

A very fitting tribute to "Ziggy" tonight from the NZ Hunter Adventure guys. Thanks Grieg, Willie & co for true snap shot of The man, The myth & the Legend that he was.
Rest easy Ziggy.
Keep ya powder dry!

Because of lockdowns etc. we still haven't had a chance to have a proper farewell for Zig . We will keep trying until we do .
