The other day i was driving along one of our local rivers, enjoyingthe sun n scenery.Hmm few bunnies around, maybe odd roo. Then a flash of grey black, hmm theres a bloody roo tail.Another 20mtrs,oh its a dog, whats a dog doing down here,ks from no where.Hmm another 20 mtrs,ah theres a old landcruzier swb stuck in a deep narrow ditch amongst willows.Hmm theres someone sitting in the truck trying to phone for help.Ye i know who it is.It was 4.30pm and he was pleased to see me,it was going to be about minus 3 that night. So got the old patrol down to his swb and pulled his truck out.It was just share luck that i spotted his dog and spotted his truck. He was a happy 70s chap and i was happy to help him. Iv been stuck out in the wild the odd time and its very pleasing that somone can help you.Helping someone out made my day.

You’re right Trout, those little acts of assistance and kindness do make your day. So just to blow my own trumpet…living in the big smoke of Auckland, I often see tourists with phones or maps looking a bit lost and I like to stop and ask them if they need help. It makes both of our days and I hope that they leave with good memories of friendly Kiwis
It's better to have loved and lost than to have paid for it and not liked it

Its satisfying having the equipment to help out as well. Came across a corolla that had parked on the side of the road to take scenic photos but had slid down the bank into the mud. Some people in a ranger were already attempting to pull it out with a tie down that promptly snapped. Did I have a tow rope? Why yes I do

Good work Trout. I find it very satisfying to help someone out and often requires very little effort. 1 of my neighbours ask for help on FB on the weekend with a flat battery, I grabbed my jumppack walk 50m got the car going and walked home. Less than 5 minutes effort, 1 happy young lady and I felt alot better about buying a jumppack !!

There's no cure for stupid mate, of course the rest of us call it common sense but apparently that doesn't exist anymore just like courtesy and respect

I was watching thru a thermal.Just above the Forks river (canel)there was about a dozen young rabbits chasing each other round in a large circle,it looked so funny, like a big bead of glo bugs.In that area there must have been about a 100 rabbits in the next 50yds along the river bed below canel.I thort wheres HC.
