My Finnlight loves BT140s. I’ve shot heaps of fallow and reds with it. One serious issue is often I find I need a follow up shot especially on big reds. As a result I thought I would look for a replacement projectile assuming they are exploding and not getting enough penetration. In the process, for the first time, I put a few shots of the BTs through a chrony. They were only doing high 2400s Is this the issue? What do they do at these speeds under 300m? The same day I fired 5 shots in a 15mm group at 100m so they’re certainly accurate at this speed. Thoughts?

personally...I would load up some 140grn partitions for bush/stag work and leave the load alone....its working and you were happy UNTILL you got the plurry chronicgraph out.... you COULD up your load and see if accuracy stays...or just be happy.

For me 139 grain sst in front of 2208 powder works well. mucked about with different powder charges till i found the best accuracy wise, dont worry too much about the bullet speed but a good first shot is the answer. a good group after that is a bonus,
be good...And careful

They are reloads. When I initially settled on the load this one really stood out. Definitely better bullet placement would help, it always does. I loaded some VLDs and they shot really well so I might try them knowing I have an accurate load to fall back on. I might just forget the chrony.

I can back up seventeenths on this, I have 120gr Sierra SP and also load 140gr BTs - I’m using 2206H for powder and getting 2800 FPS for the 120s and 2700 for the 140s - haven’t had any issues. Seventenths had good load data for the 120s and I did the data for the 140s - Jakkos been using the 139 load for a long time so he’s got it bang on for his gun.

140 BTs 46-48 grains of ADI 2208 if suppressed or 2209 if it’s not and up to 50gr. They are doing around 2970fps. Now you are going to have ppl commenting that’s over max load bla bla bla but I have never had trouble with pressure signs and all that and it has blown away everything I’ve shot first shot. Reds, fallow, sika and goats. I’ve even shot wild cattle in the neck with them a dropped them on the spot. Don’t same loads for mates they love it.
