Bring A Cat Semi Automatics Back to Trade Me
Aug 19th, 2019 at 6:30pm
Print Post
Since Trade Me prohibited the sale of all semi automatic firearms in March, the market for used semi-auto 22s and shotguns in New Zealand has really dried up.
Trade Me was the main place people went to buy and sell used firearms, so this is a major setback.
The number of firearms currently listed on Trade Me is less than half what it was before their policy change.

I’ve created a petition for Trade Me to allow the sale of all “A” category firearms, as they did before.
Here is the link: https://www.change.org/p/trade-me-trade-me-allow-the-sale-of-all-a-category-fire...

Feel free to sign and share it if you agree.

Cheers,

Have you thought about what you're doing? Trademe is not responsible for the drop in the number of firearms being listed for sale. Semi autos were only a small part.

Trademe themselves wish that more rifles were being listed. This is losing them money.

The last thing we want is Trademe stopping all rifle sales because you are drumming up negative publicity for them.

I know you're angry and hurt, but you are turning into a liability. Take your petition down. Stop annoying gun shops. Go and sit quietly in a room.

Sorry, eighth is taken. If you're quick you might just get two hundred and ninety-eighth...

Another reason you might want to consider is that the buy back scheme is offering good money for semi auto .22 rifles - the Stirling 14Ps for example - they were a regular feature on trademe for $200 - with a 15 shot mag they’re now prohibited and there’s no more 10 shot mags in NZ. So either get an import permit for a magazine or you get $400 in the buy back, that’s about $200 more than what they’re actually worth. Could that explain a few things?

I'd just like to point out the irony that you spent way more time trashing my idea than it would have taken to sign the petition and go on with your day. I heard a saying once about how people who aren't willing to take action like to attack and bring down those who do, and now I get the meaning of that saying.

For one I think trademe would never allow the word semi auto to be associated to selling of firearms on there website .it's unfortunate the outcome of March 15  but it is what it is. However there should definitely be some sort if market place for those types of firearms to be sold via auction etc.  It's just it will never compete with the Internet traffic that trademe draws . I mean who honestly goes on there and browses at just the one item they are after.  Maybe Dave tipple should start a second hand firearms website on there gun city site for the purpose of legitimate firearms sales .

That's not irony, he doesn't support what you are doing. It takes effort for people to explain that you're doing the wrong thing and you should pay attention.

What have you got against Trademe anyway? They stopped the listing semi-auto's when it became illegal. They don't know the difference between a rimfire and a centrefire semi auto and don't have the time to go through all the auctions to make sure someone is not selling something illegal, and can't risk the liability if someone does get away with it and it makes the news. What's unreasonable about that?
