Nice triple to end the week.

Got back yesterday from Wanganui region chasing Fallow.
Was a good trip with 15 animals sighted even with the shite weather and 3 on the deck.
Here’s how it planned out.
My mate has a Visla bitch who is dynamite at finding animals which gave me my first hind at about 30 meters. She’d already indicated on 4 goats and 3 lots of peacocks until she got it right. But all I had to do was acknowledge what she was looking at and walk on and she’d follow moving ahead until the next indication.
The hind was with her yearling and had just come off some new pines into the DOC land which is where Holly spotted her, both of the deer and the dog were at a Mexican standoff until I dropped the hind. The yearling stood there until I moved then ran about 20 meters and stood there again. I left her, she can get bigger for next time.
I was staying at a mates Shepard’s quarters and on Friday evening we both went for a walk onto the land that borders his farm - I’d seen bugger all animals all day until about 4-30 then they just started popping out. Heaps of them.
A quick and quiet stalk and I shot 2 deer with one bullet - that’s a first and totally unintentional - I couldn’t see the yearling as it was behind the bigger hind and in some rushes - unfortunately the yearling was only wounded so needed the extra pill to finish it humanely, I hate seeing animals suffer.
Anyway recovery and all up I’ve got plenty of succulent venison ageing and off to the butchers to repair the hack job I’ve made so far😁
All animals were heavy in fat with marbling into the back steaks - delicious. Kidneys totally covered and good winter fat into the hind quarters and inside the abdominal cavity. Theyll see out the winter fine and dandy which should mean a great breeding season.
I’m going to have to get my .223 going with a suppressor as the 7-08 is way too much gun and I’m losing a bit of meat as a result.
