Has anyone fished in Albania before or know the permit/license requirements to fish there for international visitors? And if you can spin fish aswell as fly?

Have looked online but can't find anything clear on it.

Cheers

Good question. I usually think of Albania as a beautiful wild country full of smugglers and renegades. Never thought of its as a fishing destination but I sure it has some great stream and rivers.. be pretty warm in the summer though. What month are you going.  August is the hottest.

Yeah will have the rod with me as we will do a bit of fishing in Slovenia and travel our way down. Looks like they got some awesome rivers to fish like the Valbona and Theth rivers.

Will be there around the end of June

End of June would be a good time before the big heat.

Dear GlenM,
I hope this post is not too late...

Though Germany is quite close to Albania compared with NZ I never thought of fishing there. Albania is one of the poorest countries in that area of the globe. So I think that people are fishing to have something eat and I expect enourmous fishing pressure. But I may be wrong.
A brand new insider`s tip is to fish Greece along the boarder to Albania. The Greeks are told to be not interested in freshwater fishing, only saltwater. But I never tested that and I don´t have friends or other reliable persons to report about that.
Fishing in the Balkans area is often compared with the clearwater sightfishing in NZ with one large differece: The Grayling and Browntrout are told to be very selective and take just the right fly...

Petri Heil and please report after your trip!
