See one was trapped on the Otago Peninsula. Also note over 17000 have been trapped so far in the program. Well done.

Would like to have got that skin. Would be a waste if they discarded the skin.
Must be very rare to find an albino possum??
Saw an albino ferret the other day up the pig root highway which i haven't seen before either.

Just got to keep on chipping away!

Talking albino Ferrits they are breed or sort after.  exmember Wirehunt had some. They seemed to be breeding them.. and then newter them so they could be transpoted.

Yer an albino pelt would be something special.

Yeah - they're pretty skinny on the ground.
I got one about ten years ago and that was the only one I've ever caught.
Had a ratty skin too - didn't bother tanning it.

Prettiest possum I ever caught was a 'silver tip' where the fur was grey but the tips of the fur was silvery white so when you looked at it the whole thing shimmered silver.
Tanned that skin and had it for years - never saw another one quite like it.

They come in all flavours mate, think you've seen it all and you walk around the corner and there's a new one to confuse you.

Yeah its great that have taken so many Possums out of the area but haven't really bothered to look at the bigger problem out that way......rabbits.  We used to shoot about 20 rabbits for each possum shot

They should start a ferret breeding program to deal to the rabbits.  Grin

I suggested that re the wilding pine problem. Hare breeding program required Wink Others thought it far more necessary to shoot said wilding pine tree eating hares from choppers  Shocked Shocked Shocked

The planting crew on a large hill country farm down here gave up planting as they were literaly getting eaten as fast as they planted, next day almost all the previous days plantings were gone so they got the waro guys in as major deer problem was suspected but they only shot 2 and when a crew went spotlighting the next night it was realised that it was a massive population of hares.  the planters have stopped untill its under control but steep terrain and bitof tussock theyre having a hard time and havent made any great reduction yet and as youll know hc theyre near impossible to poison.

A thermal might helpful for them.  I wonder what would happen if they sprayed the new planting individually with 1080?  Roll Eyes

Hare can congregate from all over into one big group for the evening if there is something of particular interest to them. When is happens its like a ''herd''.  They are all over the place. I once shot 83 in bout 2 hours.. in a small rolling paddock that was only bout 6-7 hectares. All picked up and gutted. It was an amazing moment, but the back was a bit sore afterward. Its hard work that many hares big all at once, and holding to drain most of the blood out.  Grin
