When time stands still **Video Clip**

Dan and I venture into a lower North Island back country river in search of "spotted gold" and were not disappointed with what we found. Some great conditioned browns up to 6.5lb on dry fly and nymph in simply stunning surroundings.

A huge day in extremely tough terrain, this is just some of the action we encountered "when time stands still"...

Andrew

Another epic vid Andrew. Good stuff. What a great bit of water.
What camera's are you using?
Cheers.
P.S. The van is finished and ready to go in February. Got the self containment certificate last month. Smiley

Wow - that was good, nice scenery and fish.

Don't know about that vagrant spider though, my son got bitten by one he picked up out in the yard, enough so it drew blood and he went to bed feeling crook.
Wife phoned up the poison's people and it turns out he's the second person in the whole of NZ's history who claims to have been made crook by a vagrant bite.

Thanks lads, SF90, is that what it was a Vagrant Spider? Thought it might be a wolf spider or fishing spider, but not really sure. Dan has a zoology degree so knows how to handle them, seemed quite passive. Looking forward too seeing said fishing van Baz!! Still bumming round the South in mine as I type.

I could be wrong, but that one looked like a vagrant to me - there's a few different varieties of vagrant.
The wolf spider is a heavier looking spider - got shorter legs.

I remember watching Steve Irwin on TV some years back handling a big spider he found on the forest floor on some offshore island.
He had no idea what it was, but when that thing sat back on its haunches and raised its front legs he felt the urge to put it down real quick.

I'm arachnophobiac - which is probably why I pay attention to them - and probably why I'll never go to Oz.

We do have spiders here that aren't in any book - split a beech log some years back and one fell out all hunched up and that bugger was the size of a standard mouse - and for an instant I thought it was.
Should have shoved that one in a bottle for someone to look at, but panicked and flattened it with a spade.

You might even want to consider taking up fly fishing for trout as well.  Wink

Easy does it gents.  If you had been served a white fleshed old resident brown that had been dragged out of the water near Foxton, you'd be of the same opinion Baz.... Grin

haha yeah to be fair the 1 trout I've tried was bland and tasteless but might have been the way it was prepared. I would have rather eaten a Kahawai Smiley

You have to question eating an old brown trout that had white flesh. Even killing it for a feed would also be questionable. It's not hard to pick out a well conditioned trout for the table.
Nothing more bland than a white fleshed-geriatric trout on it's last fins. But in saying that-give me a flounder or a snapper for the table any day.
