Question on the definition of "bait" in anglers notice
Nov 6th, 2018 at 4:03pm

I was thinking of using mullet pieces to catch trout or kahawai in my local river. After reading the rules on bait again I believe I can't do so. Under the definition of bait it states

Quote:
Natural fish, excluding fish ova, or any portion of a fish, or shellfish (mollusc), except
where stated otherwise in the second schedule of this notice.

I am trying to ensure I understand this part correctly.  Does it mean I can use a whole fish but not cut up pieces?

Thanks!

you are correct....you can use a WHOLE fish but not bits of it...so a strip bait or chunks of fish are a no no.  now sure eggzachary how but prawn tails are OK.... the wee pink cocktail sized ones work a treat. just remember only one bait...you CAN have more than one hook in same bait BUT if they seperate it becomes a bit grey/dodgy. you can have a fly or flies and a bait...so no issue to have say a booby glow bug on short trace off swivel and worm or prawn on another.
