Labour weekend getaway/tahr hunt

Hey guys have a few mates keen to get away early labour weekend and drive into a hut for the long weekend. Would be quite keen to have a look for a tahr not after a trophy or anything. Just wondered if anyone would have some suggestions? We thought about driving into Macaulay hut, how difficult would it be to cross the river at this time of year? Thanks.

Labor day is a fair way away to make a prediction but..

The river is low at the moment but that will change short term with the front due to cross the south from tonight.. some heavy rain forecast in places against the Main Divide, it will rise in the short term.

If the temperature drops back again later this week to cool, the annual snow melt will be delayed or slowed and at worst it will only rise to moderate (ok) levels by labor weekend.

If on the other hand the big weather picture changes in the next 10 days and we get a shift to warm norwesters the remaining snow, of which there is still a fair bit, will raise levels and discolor the water so caution advised..

You'll need to keep an eye on the situation and make a decision closer to the date.. About 3 days out, as the  forwards weather forecasting will be far more accurate.

The hut will have a fair few people up there over that weekend so take a decent tent with you just in case..

Good luck, I don't think that area has had the shit shot out of it yet.. ?  Smiley
