Holy crap - just read that Jason Hairston of Kuiu has died. Its an official Kuiu notice so not a scam, as best I can tell. Sounds like it may have been a hunting accident.

From memory he was also a founder of Sitka gear? Both companies have led some big developments in hunting gear, but more importantly have done some great things for the profile of hunting.

Edit: yep, its on their website https://www.kuiu.com/global/

He had and had done everything.  Professional athelete, property,  Sitka and Kuiu.

He certainly changed the game in that time.

Cheers, Dan

Reading the informal obits its not hunting related, just happened after hunting. Possibly exertion related, connected with the multiple concussions suffered from his career in the NFL

HAIRSTON claimed in several interviews he had early onset CTE.

Id never read of this disease before.....which is surprising in rugby mad NZ. Pretty alarming results when you start to read the studies.

Irrespective, a sad time for his family.

You know if you have taken a knock to the swede then your vetting officer should be requiring a medical certificate when you renew your firearms licence.....mine did even though the knock to the swede was 5 years prior to getting my f/l and he vetted me twice prior to this time for my f/l renewal Roll Eyes

The reasons to obtain medical records etc for firearms licences is recorded by the vetting officer and the decision to access said notes is made by the District Arms Officer - Dist Arms Officers then contact GP or Medical Proffessional via the applicant (Privacy Laws)  its not an exact science but in most cases we have other info available.

Radar, I can understand that, but I was requested to go and get a medical certificate to say that I was ok to hold a f/l despite the police giving me my f/l and vetting me twice under the current system.

Couldn't understand that, after 30+ years holding a f/l with no requests for this and then requesting a medical certificate for a knock to the head some 5 years prior to me obtaining a f/l.
