Going into Nolanís in a few weeks. Iíve hunted up Hughes a couple of times from the bottom but this time Iím thinking about getting dropped off in the head for a couple of nights then walking out to Nolanís. Does anyone know if itís possible?

Cheers

Pretty certain there is a gorge that may not be passable coming down hughes creek. You will have to climb high sidle round and come down a prominent side creek which flows in at the bottom exit of the gorge..
Havent done it myself, but eyeballed it several times from bottom of gorge and I know it was the recommended route in and out of upper hughes creek in some older track guides...

Probabley easier just to fly out as well....

I have Walked out of Hughes Creek twice. Climb out of Hughes Basin, onto the ridge between Hughes and the Perth. Follow it and drop down to Hughes Creek below the gorge, do not try the gorge, I had some mates do it and from memory it took three days of hard slog

Thanks for the replies, I tried climbing straight up onto the ridge from the bottom of the gorge last year. I bailed when I was most of the way up. Pretty sure I could've done it if I had more daylight and was more determined though. Thought sidling around above the gorge might've been easier but sounds like ill give that a miss haha. If the weathers good Ill get dropped up there im sure ill find my way down somehow. Is there a campsite up on that ridge or do you get dropped in the headbasin somewhere?

In the head basin. You will find a camp site somewhere amongst the boulders.
