GAC under threat

The Minister of Conservation has stated that GAC questioning the science behind 1080 "is not helpful".

This is proof that anybody who questions the science behind the use of 1080 is going to get hammered by the NZ Government.

Regrettably, I am not in the least surprised at DoC's intents.

If this Govt disbands the GAC I will throw all of my toys out of the cot.  Smiley

The Minister. But I think the rule is that you read and interpret it as you wish and then hop onto the closest band wagon. Smiley

Personalising the issue with abuse won't get us far. It's never a great thing to piss off the arbitrator.

This DOC Minister has publicly stated she hates deer and Hunters are the problem. Other comments like no wild animal control by hunter organizations. She know nothing about hunting yet we are being controlled by a non elected MP from a minority party. Her idealistic views are nothing other than a conflict of interest. Now more than ever hunters and hunting groups and association need to support GAC not against them. They have not been well funded and the NZDA should have been more supportive rather than as from last years conference were concerned about them.

Eugenie Sage spoke passionately against the GAC way back when she was in opposition and the bill was introduced to Parliament. Its disappointing but not surprising. Unfortunately the inability to get an independent funding procedure in place has made this easier for her.

This ain't gonna be a fair fight, as the GAC is effectively hamstrung by (accountable to)  DoC/the Minister. So they will be unable to even correct (the almost certainly cynically) incorrect statements like they spent public funds attending junkets in the US.

So it'll be up to others to bat the GAC's corner. And unless I have missed it NZDA appear to be silent so far......not a great start, imo.

Is it Really a case of the honourable minister not agreeing with her department, or is it a case of her department not agreeing with it's honourable minister?
Shocked

I hope GAC comes out with a strong counter statement promptly.

Deer , or other 'noxious' animals, to use an old NZ Forest Service appellation, are fast becoming the least of this incompetent COL's many problems. It's amateur hour, at the Beehive, but unfortunately it's going on for longer than an hour.  Grin
