Son keen to experience his first Tahr hunt

Hi Guys
My family and I are traveling down from Whangarei to Christchurch in the first week of October for a sporting tournament and my 12 year old son and I are keen to sneak off for a day or so( Wife approved   Grin) Tahr hunting.  He is mad keen on hunting - deer, pigs goats and small game and his dream is to go for a Tahr hunt. Being from Whangarei we have absolutely no experience at this so I am wondering if there is anyone out there keen to help us out and come with us out on either a day hunt or overnighter. We are both fit and good on the hills (north island hills) although I wouldn't take him to any precariously steep places. He is good with a rifle shooting fellow out to 430 yards. He is not after a trophy animal just a first Tahr. We have all the appropriate clothing for a hunt that time of year and can bring extra for an overnighter if needed. I don't mind paying our way for the trip and can also supply some northland avocados if you are wanting some.
If anyone is keen on helping out that would be much appreciated thanks. Cheers
Stu

Good on you Ash!, I can vouch for Stu not being a weird vegan. Hope you're keeping well

Check the hunting reports section as he did a good report of a recent trip.  It should explain how you are going to shoot one of these creatures without dealing with steep slopes...

This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine.  Without my rifle I am useless, without me it is useless.
