Kaimanawa tops

Hey all , this summer I plan to hunt the Kaimanawa tops. I have only hunted the tops once, walking to the thunder bolts with no luck. Are the umukarikari tops worth a look or are the deer mainly on the other side of the river at the thunderbolt tops? Cheers

The deer are mainly everywhere there....especially early summer. I am stunned you didn't have any luck. Stick to the basics: remember wind direction. Up early, or stay till its dark. Good binos, don't skyline yourself, be prepared to sit for 1/2 hour/ hour at least glassing each time you stop, with all that area to cover. Normally how strong you are is the limiting factor in how much venison you carry out:) But to get to the Thunderbolt you have already walked through an awful lot of good hunting country anyway:)

if you didn't see anything around thunderbolt ,your very unlikely to see any anywhere.
