Link doesn’t work for me huntinfish but I’ve heard that it’s a shoot every thing , spare nothing and the cost for doing this isn’t a problem.

The narrow minded extremists in there don't give a rats about the social costs either.

Absolutely disgraceful and demonstrates some serious problems with our tax funded Department of conservation.
Whatever happened to liaising with recreational hunters and working with us to target hot spots if required??

This has undone of the good rapport that may have existed between the various hunting sectors and demonstrates what an extremist conservationist that Eugenie Sage is and what problems we now face.
We should not have to tolerate this type of behaviour.

We have serious problems with Doc now with out of control 1080 operations,  Waro and now the major culling of tahr.

Despite a life time of support for DOC and general consensus with most of their processes, I'm starting to see things the same way.
Between this sort of shit, WARO and 1080 they're starting to look like environmental Nazis.

In some areas it needs doing. The tahr block I was in, in May had huge numbers with extensive damage up in the tussock.

drama queens  Smiley   this is what trophy hunting and bagging hunters that bomb up mobs of thar causes.

Same happens with deer a hunter goes out sees 40 but none are up to his standards so leaves them to breed then has a tantrum when a chopper comes through and shoots the animals he didnt want to shoot himself.   pretty sure rec hunters wont get 20 000 thar shot this year  so best leave it to the pros.

hunters are harder to please then a whinging wife lol  Cheesy

The acceptable solution would have been for Doc to have contacted rec hunters and organisations such as Nzda to discuss possible issues with the population.

This was why the tahr liaison committee was formed to work with the department in a positive manner and form a reasonable working relationship.

and then the next thread on here is another muppet on their high horse whinging that nzda went to the dark side and helped cull like what happened years ago. or complain they went hunting and there was 20ppl in the area bombing up everything.

Nz hunters are too selfish and narrow minded to be any part of a solution hence the reason doc etc bypass and dismiss hunters veiws and opinions.

if you want to do something then be proactive. get a group together and go smash an area inside the control area, take doc a few hundred tails and demonstrate that rec hunters have a place in management.   id bet my left nut same thing happens as the waro thread, lotsa talk and complaints and very little action when it comes to actualy doing something

NZ has an agreed Tahr Control Plan. Hunters and hunting organisation were involved in creating it. It sets a maximum of 10000 tahr. If the population really is 35000 then 25000 need shot and that's a big job for recreational hunters.

Don't need to count them all as the plan is based on density per km. Wonder what the likes of Ken Tustin reckon.
