Hi Guys

Does anyone know much about the Te Puke Exclosure in the Kawekas? Or have you been there? Be keen to catch up as i have a trip booked there with Helisika in November to go check it out.

Just wanting some general info about the bush, where you can get to from there etc as all i have is Arial images and Topo maps.

Regards

You mean the tops along the Te Puke Hut, north (along the ridge?)

As far as I am aware it was a DOC trail to see how regen without browsing compared to deer browsed areas. Theres a few deer fence blocks up there.

Yeah mate north of the hut (understand its a 2 hour walk), its along the same ridge but you go thought the bush north of the hut and then when you are out of the bush again you are there where we will be dropped i believe.

Great hunting all around the exclosure area, I liked the hunting up from the camp site to the high point .1399 past the old enclosure is a good ridge system that takes you towards the mangatainoka hut, the country below high point .1178 always seemed to hold animals, but we even managed to shoot animals from the heli landing site, lol  enjoy your trip and be prepared to get snow even in December.

We renamed it Te Puke EXPOSURE - it gets very cold up there in a southerly. Have only hunted it around the roar, but animal numbers are good and the fenced area gives you a real good indication of the amount of damage the deer do.
Plenty of reds around there too. Good luck.

Hi Tinfish

Is the area still fenced? As in there are no deer inside the fenced area?

Cheers
