Thar Ballot Block Required - 5th Period
May 19th, 2018 at 11:52am
Print Post
Hi Guys, due to rough weather all this coming week we decided to pull out of our planned 4th period Thar ballot block so do any members on this forum know if parties that were originally successful for the 5th Period (26th May - 1st June) have pulled the pin. A problem we have found and including DOC Haast is that many parties who decide not to go don't inform DOC of there intentions hence blocks are available but no one knows. Our plan is to head to the West Coast next Saturday 26th May and hope something is available but if not then Plan "B" will be implemented. (not sure what plan "B" is yet!!) PM me if someone knows of anything. Cheers Allan

If forecast is that bad I wouldn't go over to initiate plan b...I'd initiate an b from home...pick somewhere East Coast in an area with the most favourable forecast and able to bail out if needed..that is my advice.

Aw no..I had Baker for 5th period but pulled out a while ago due to other things eventuating ,offered the block to a mate which he gladly accepted.

Gotta say I agree with Deer Whisperer re weather though, looks like its gonna get pumped over there this week so will be a lot of snow to negotiate next.

Yip, could be a cold one at Bubble Creek if lots of snow on the ground. Have you been there before Jonesy45? Long range forecast for next week looking good at this stage.

We will be at Fox Glacier on the Saturday so by end of day well know if any blocks available by parties they didn't bother to contact DOC or turn up at all which happens often apparently. If no ballot blocks available then should find somewhere else to go.

We've got Shelter Hollow for the 5th. After this week I'd say she'll be pretty white up there. I hope everyone is packing ice axe and crampons, and knows how to use them.

Hanging out big time for this trip, hopefully the weather will hold.

Does any one know if the poison drop as part of the "Pest Free 2050" program has happened yet? We have Eblis/Acyphilla next week and are keen to know.

Rumata, not action yet. ZIP are waiting on the weather so they can do the first of two prefeeds before the toxic drop.

Updates from ZIP
