ROSSI 92, 357 OR 44 MAG

So Im keen to get a Rossi 92.
Was leaning towards a 357 as they seem a bit more practical, they definitely are are harder to come by.
It would only be used for plinking and maybe to smoke a few rabbits, however if a pig ran out Id have a go at it.
What are your opinions? Is 357 a bit more accurate and flatter shooting or is it not that much different and am I better to get a 44 mag for a bit more thump/fun?
I assume the 44 magnum would cost more to load.
Thanks

Not a 92 Rossi but run a Ruger .44 mag 7.5" barrel it's roo head shot at 100y material, costs me 33c a pop to hand load Fed primers, 10gr AP70N powder with a 240gr moly cast projectile.
Excellent fun to plink with to.

I don't have any experience with .44 Magnum lever guns, but .38 Special target loads with 158 grain lead semi-wadcutters work very well on rabbits and possums.

A full .357 load will knock over a deer or pig at closer ranges no problems.

I used to use a Marlin .357 that would feed flush seated 148gr wadcutters, but haven't yet tried it with my Rossi.

Very cheap to load in .38 / .357 with cast bullets and around 3 - 3.5 grains of powder. Cases last forever too, unless you lose them.

45-acp on Trademe sells cast bullets for both calibres.

.357 and a 44 mag will both kill a deer or a pig at reasonable ranges with a well placed bullet , the 44 mag has more authority but the 357 can do the job , reloading cast projectiles and light loads is a cheap way to shoot , I'd go for the .44  and hand load

you would just about be as well off with a .22magnum if you arent going to reload..... bunnies and rabbits it be great.plinking fine and dandy.pig at 50 yards pop it in the ear and its night night nursey.... ammo price is always going to be issue with any of them if you arent going to reload. the other one that fits bill you havent mentioned is the .45 long colt Wink slower than the other two but would do the job just as well if you do your part. ammo is available as is popular for cowboy action shooting so its soft lead going slow, pertfect for the three you doing and slip in slightly better/more pricey round if pork on the menu.
there is a lever .22mag for sale on one of these forums at present.
