are hanwag alaska gtx boots any good? looking at upgrading from my grisports. my price range is around 500 which the hanwags fall under.

Yep, I'd buy another pair. Mine have been going good for a couple of years now. Very comfortable. Good support. Sturdy rand. Lace up system is excellent. Reasonably lightweight for a boot with its specs.

Yup I can recommend them as well, basically the same boot as Meindl Island Pro's, except the Rand is a bit higher and they are re-solable , and $ 150 cheaper.  Cool

yea great all round boot. very comfortable.  only thing is they are not stiff enough for shingle scree and bluffs day after day on multi day trips in the likes of thar country

Not to put a negative spin on things, mine were a good boot, but after two years of use, one of the heal cups collapsed and the boot became really sloppy/un-supporting, I kept rolling my ankle under load, and blamed my dodgy ankles, but was the boot, not me.

Other than that, they were awesome, like any boot, you have to look after them, from memory the rand on the toes started to lift quite early in the piece, didn't affect the boot, just looked ugly.

Got a pair this week, did the Cass lagoon track near arthurs. Very happy with them so far.
