Wild Boar on a spit advice

Hey guys
I got my first wild boar on Friday (see NZHerald link below). Having only ever hunted deer before this is my first pig. I'm wanting to put it on a spit this weekend and need some advice on how to prep it etc. I've read that it should be left in a brine for 24hrs beforehand? Also what rub would you put on it? It was 45kgs guttted, how long would that take on a gas spit? Some say 5-6hrs, others say 11hrs!

sounds like its already brined. time to cook will depend on how you do it, gas or wood, wood will give you much better flavour,

Never heard of brinning them before, the few that we done were over gas about 80lb and took 5 or 6hrs but like anything it depends on how hot youre cooking it.

I assume you have bled it?????
You also need to find out what pesticides have been laid in Whitford forest.
I donít think they use brodificoum in there, but you should make sure before you go feeding it to the whanau.
Ditch Keeling should know. Or thereíll be signs on the gate up Rewa rd.
Sounds like itís quite used to people, probably raised in a pen, so should be fine.

Yep bled it as best we could eg, gutted it and hung it straight away. Will that be ok?
No pesticides up there that i know of, Ditch actually helped be butcher it.
I dont think it was used to people, it was sh*t scared running around the place. Ditch said it matches the colours hes taken out of the forest. I'm guessing somethings spooked it and its bolted through the paddocks then got lost.

Party was Friday night, i put it in a brine over night and then on the spit for 6.5 hours. It tasted awesome and the meat was falling off the bone. Thanks for the advice guys.
