Me O mai mai
Apr 27th, 2018 at 4:19pm
Print Post
Hey guys, I am just whiping up a quick mai mai this weekend.
Just starting now so I will keep you updated  with photos and how it is going.
Main reason is the Kids are amped but my old mai mai is tiny and rotting away. I will make a deluxe model.
Well deluxe in my mind.
Right better get into it.

All framed up and ready to go to the pond. Unfortunately it is pouring with rain, so I might continue with anti divorce proceedings (installing the new kitchen).

Back into it in the rain, managed to get my framing to site. Have leveled the floor and squared it up am now just putting down flooring. You may notice the dam in the background filling up. I did a story on this called dam busted dam, well it got fixed a couple of weeks ago.

Tip:I know not many people would be silly enough to insulate the floor of a mai mai but if you are ever doing poly underfloor insulation you can't beat gorrila grip glue. Put it on the joists to stop the floor squeaking and a few dabs on the poly, then it won't go anywhere.

I have now finished erecting the walls, and the internal wall linings which also double as the bracing.

I am as wet as a dog, so for the rest of the day I will pre cut the walls out of some old tin I have in the shed. Also I had better organise a beam to hold the roof up.

Tip:If you have a half decent battery drill and are building a mai mai or for a million jobs around the place buy a box of bugle head screws. You wont regret it!!!

Sorry about the lack of updates throughout the day.
It was a late start to the build, didn't make it out there till 12.30. Had the two kids with me, they pretty much just played in the mud and drain all day.
First thing I did was put the beam in to take the roof. The roof is some left over freezer panel roofing I had aquired so three sheets of that which can span the whole length of the building meant that it went up very quick.
I had been deliberating for a fear while weather my roof would step back or not and decided to hang it out flush with the front, then I read Mighty Ducks comment last night and decided to keep it back. I have left the roof overhanging at the back so I can shift it forward If I don't like it, but I must say when standing in there if feels pretty good.

Few pictures from the day.

Just door and a bit of trim left building wise, then some fencing and planting, that is the year plan now though.
Has anyone tried growing a passion fruit vine on there mai mai, they are ready about this time of year aren't they. I think it would be a good idea just to pick and eat.

That is what we call a letter box.  Need more shooting area out the front with a platform to stand up on, and a lower roof.  Undecided
