Reduced 300wsm loads - any info?
Apr 25th, 2018 at 8:50pm
Print Post
I posted this in the other pub and got a couple of replys but none with direct experience.
Am loading with h4895 (2206h),  35gr with 125gr ballistic tips, going to bump it to 37gr so I am above the 60% of max charge as recommended by hodgdon
Anyone else doing the same?
Aaron

23grns Trailboss get you to 1700fps direct off hogdgon website with a 150grn pill..... have a squizz at data you are using currently and go from there....
maybe you dont need to go as light as you are with the 125grn loads as they SHOULDNT have much recoil at suggested starting load levels anyway.
no I dont own a wsm but do own .270 and .308
the difference with hot loads in .270 between a 170 grn pill and a 130 is very noticable
the 125grn loads we did hot in the .308 for our young fella to use, were easy on the shooter (not so much on wallabies when they arrived) Grin Grin

What are you wanting to achieve with the reduced loads?

I am loading 36 grains 2206h behind a 150gn projectile, doing about 2300fps in a 308.  The kids are happily shooting that.

I started at 30gns and speed was 1800 - 1900, and no grouping, shots all over the place.  The above load is grouping 1.5" or so.

Just a nice quiet low recoil load, Im loading 36.5gr so speed should he abit faster than your 150gr load.
I could set up another rifle but it's a waste of money when I can do it safely with this rifle and only have to adjust the scope up 5moa when using it for 100y zero

"Quiet" is a very relative term. Still DEF need hearing protection even with that pisser load.

It's quiet with the magnum suppressor.  Hearing protection? I don't like walking around the bush with ear muffs on

set up your hundred yard target and take note of where holes appear....if you are really lucky it might line up with thick part of crosshair...or be half way sort of thing.
agree 100% about earmuffs......thats why we use suppressors Wink after years of blasting my hearing Im more than happy to shoot without earmuffs with suppressor but will use them if shooting paper......still trying to make myself wear them when duckshooting...work in progress that one.
