I am very “risk averse” with my dogs, and try to avoid putting them at any additional risk than what they face when on the job. They put themselves at risk enough when hunting and bailing in bluffs and gorge country and nasty rivers  without putting them at more risk running them next to a car/truck.

I teach mine a good IN while I’m on the quad which means “in behind”  which also doubles as my recall, one of the handlful of simple commands I have for my dogs, if I’m walking the same command IN is used to keep them “in behind” and was easily transferred to quad use.

A very easy command to teach and just as easy to transfer to the quad. Something that is taught from an earlier age, it is also my recall from a SIT command which is my “stop and don’t move” eg SIT Finn (stop where you are and don’t move until released), Then the recall, IN Finn to come in behind, whether I’m walking or staying stationary.

Very good command to have to get the dog back to you an out of harms way
