I am wondering is it possible to buy a new motor as above, or a recond short block. Or failing that does anyone have a block and bottom end of the above engine?

I had a 1KZ in my old Landcruiser, Melted a couple of heads. Perhaps you'd be better off looking at a Lexus V8 instead ... Wink
1KZ's are not great.

The worst part of this is its only 20,000 kms into a rebuilt short block with a brand new head at the same time. The company that rebuild the motor is no longer in business.
How good is the 5L motor and is it an easy swap?

Yes the motors are still available. Short blocks and heads.
Wouldn't go backwards to a 5L. Doable but silly idea.
Lineside buy our genuine new parts and resell them at astronomical prices and people think they're getting a deal haha.

Should've lasted a hell of a lot longer than it did. I'd say some shortcuts were taken for it to fail. Too bad the company is no longer around. Would've been a warranty rework for sure. Were they a member of MTA? If so, I'd contact MTA and see what can be done. They should have insurance to cover a members f**kups
