Kuiu vs Marmot tent

Gidday everyone.

So I got stuck in my small macpac Microsoft tent for about 35 37 hours the other week in rain and Gale force wind.
It made me realise that a bit of extra room would really go a long way in a situation like that again... so time for an upgrade.
Weight is crutial for me so need something light but decent size. Don't want to go any heavier than my current macpac at 1.6kg

I have done a bit of research of different brands etc and I think I have narrowed down my options to the
Kuiu Mountainstar 2P. and the
Marmot Force 2P
Leaning a bit more toward the kuiu. doesn't seem like I could go wrong with it really.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these 2 tents?

Cheers

The kuiu is not that light. I like it, but its probably 2.1-2.4kg. The storm star is lighter but its carbon poled.

These are true 2man tents.

I had a Marmot 1P last roar, and in places where the inner clips we on the poles, and touched the fly, rain leaked through. spent 2 days in it, in NW rain on the coast. It was big enough.

The Kuiu is more expensive. My issue with selecting a web tent is time and time again, they aren't big enough, or they leak / tear etc and warranty is a pain.

If you don't have a budget ceiling go Helleberg.

Have a look at the Terra Nova Southern Cross 1 and Southern Cross 2 tents as a possible option.

they look nice too but big budget. Have read up on them and poor support seems common.

I have a KUIU Storm Star 2P. Canít really fault it yet. Weighs in at 2.4 kg so not the lightest but built like a brick shithouse. Definitely a 2P tent but great on your own. Only comes with the Aluminium poles. Costs a bit more than the competitors but it has quality. Hasnít leaked yet  - spent over 30 hours tent bound in continuous rain in the Victorian high country (which probably doesnít compare that well with the Fiordland but you get the gist).  All the best with your choice. If itís any consolation it took me over two years to pull the trigger on the KUIU.  Cheers

Thanks and cheers.

Yes. Its a good brand and they make good tents. But support in NZ is non existent. So bad that mine with a broken pole and tear is now just buffed in a corner and has been replaced by an MSR. And trying to deal with Terra Nova in England was hopeless.

Have just bought a Vango F10 Zenon UL2.
Its a minaret shape and size and only 1.6kg.
Will be trying it out in the roar.
Bivouac $600.
Amazon and youshop, $300 landed.

Scottrods, are those Vango's a American or British brand?
Just curious as my brother goes to the UK for work couple of times a year and if you give it the big thumbs up it definitely ticks a couple of boxes for me

British, actually Scottish company. Vango is an anagram of "Govan" in Glasgow, where the founder came from.

Online reviews are not bad, not so many on youtube. will see how it goes over the roar in Haast.
