Starting up fly fishing, again. Advice wanted

Hi members, decided that after many years of successful hunting that I want to get back into fly fishing. The one thing I would like some positive advice on, is in rod weight choice.
Currently I have a Sage launch in 7wt floating line. Have a offer on a 6wt but not sure which will suit me best. I am from ChCh and plan to fish lakes and rivers like the Opihi gorge, Clarence, Waiau, Nina and a few spring creeks. not a beginner but a bit dusty after a long hiatus.
Hope to get some good advice Cool

ive got 8/9wt and a 6wt the 9 gets nod for lakes but the 6 sure is pleasant to use.
use what youve got for now,get out and catch some fish,no need to go spending your hard earned $$$$ on flash new gear ,unless of course you want to Grin

Go the 6wt mate, I only own 6wt's for everything, lakes, saltwater, big rivers, small creeks etc, will be far less taxing and subtle than the 8/9.

My 2 fly rods are a 5 weight and a 7wt.
7wt for Lakes and bigwater.
5wt for everything else and I prefer that.
Lethal in the small streams I favour and awesome for stalking lake edges in the kayak, casting to sighted fish.
