Restoration of the Old Golden Hills Hut - to date 3 fish hunt forum members have volunteered as well as 5 members from the Tauranga Deerstalkers Association, this is a great response, along with the volunteers to date I have several others that are willing to help as time allows.

Owhaoko Trust are allowing volunteers to hunt, (yearlings only) no stags or hinds in fawn, the Golden Hills block will be closed for hunting from about the 20th Dec, this is a generous from the Trust, but you know the rules (work first hunt later).

If you are interested in volunteering with the restoration, please reply to this post.

The split native timber that is required has been resolved, I approached a past client of mine who has been in the forestry business all his life if he would consider coming in and splitting the beech timber, Terry will be joining us on the first trip early in January, the dates are still to be confirmed but if any of you are available just email me the dates that would suite, 4-5 volunteers, Helisika will also be flying in our materials .

The goal for the first trip would be to split the timber and to raise the Hut onto a new foundation, we will be flying in H 5 treated timber for the new foundation .

I have had excellent support from my building suppliers including a new roof at no cost, Helisika are also flying when possible at no cost, we all know how much chopper time is and this is a fantastic offer.

The owners of the land Owhaoko Trust have applied to Heritage New Zealand to have the Restored Golden Hills Hut listed as a Historical Site, we will be taking photos of the Restoration process for Heritage New Zealand .

Historic Photos of Hut

Over the past few months we have received some great stories from hunters etc that have stayed at Golden Hills hut in the past.  Any stories or photos of the old days are welcome.  Email office.dgartner@gmail.com
