Tikka T3x/30mm scope mounting options?
Nov 20th, 2017 at 11:22am

Need to mount new scope to a Tikka t3x 7-08. Scope has 30mm tube with a 44mm objective. What rings/base setup would you guys recommend?

May go with the Optilocks or Burris Signature Zee rings as they come with plastic inserts to prevent scope marking. Would prefer not to have a rail to keep scope low as possible (Guess I would need this with the burris rings?). Talleys seem popular but do they need lapping?

Not very clued up on this sort of thing so any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

I had the same rifle and same size scope, i looked over all the different options and asked a few diff people.. I ended up going with Talley rings and got them lapped by a gun smith.
Haven't had any issues to far.

The burris Zee rings also come with different MOA centers allowing tuning for longer range without using all the adjustment or putting a strain on the scope or the need for special bases

I put Weaver 3 screw tactical rings on my Viper.
They've only moved once and that was after I fell on the rifle and the scope up/down turret took the brunt.  It was way off when I tested it, but that fall buggered me for hunting for a few days and was about 3 metres.
So, good rings and not expensive and that's the only time they've moved.

I went with Talley rings.  The Z rings won't work without a rail.  If you want plastic inserts then go with the optilocks.

This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine.  Without my rifle I am useless, without me it is useless.

Cheers all, One issue i may run into with the tallys/Optilocks is that the objective bell on scope is long and tapered (Leupold VX-5). And having the front ring sitting above the lug dosnt give me much room for adjustement.

Anyone get around this problem? Can you reverse the talleys or Opilocks? Guess rail would be one way of fixing this.

I think the Tallies come in different heights if you have clearance issues.

I mean room for adjust forward and back.

With the long tapered objective, and with the tikka long action receiver, I dont want the scope sitting too far forward.

T3's come drilled and tapped for bases . I have Burris 2 piece picatinny/weaver, not a rail , type bases for both Zee rings and Leupold WQR rings   .

You might consider the DNZ Game Reaper milled aluminum Mounts.
The Tikka T3X is drilled and tapped.  The DNZ Game Reapers are simple and we'll made and effective.   They are available in 30 mm and come in standard, medium  and tall heights to accommodate  the various sizes of scopes  .

DNZ Game Reaper mounts are the best. They're very light and strong and beautifully machined - Also very well aligned, being a single piece mount. The 30mm Low mount should fit your 44mm objective with 1mm or so clearance depending on how far back your scope is positioned.

I'm using Optilock rings with a VX5 3-15x44 and the clearance is fine.
