300 win mag

Hi Guys

Whats the furthest you have had a 300 win mag out to in NZ? I get about 1350 Yards at 800 elevation but haven't tried any further. Ballistic calculator says thats when i reach Mach1.2.
Going to try a mile with it using 208 ELDM and then 230OTM and see what happens i only have a 24' barrel.

What do you guys load and what ranges you get out of it? On paper and steel that is, not deer.

Cheers

Haven't pushed mine past 600m but it goes well up to that. Loading 208 ELD-M with 2217 and getting 2984 fps average from a 26" Bartlein barrel. Last time out I dialled 10 MOA at 600m.

Shooter says 1768 fps at 1000m and 23.2 MOA.

Many moons back I had a Remington Sendero in .300 WM which I loaded with 185 gr Lapuas and shot that out to 1600 metres where we used to have an old washing machine tub at that range.

My scope was bottomed out with elevation where I had shims installed to help get me that range and then one day we noticed some goats feeding on a grassy area at 1250 metres where I got one on the third shot.

A mate of mine had the same rifle and he was using heavy 220 & 240 gr projectiles but later switched to a .300 RUM where I saw him shoot out to 2000 mtrs on clumps of dirt on an old clay bank.

Because its a hardy barrel and action and you cant push them hard like a Remington or USA made action. I shoot with a guy with a dta and he pushes the 230 Berger at about 2750.
I try to keep pressures down in a match gun to preserve barrel life, brass life and keep throat wear down. I use a 338 for long shots. I did push it to about 2850 in load pressure testing but it was shaving brass on extraction. I run hornady brass originally to 4 loadings and it started to crack just above the belt. Norma brass takes a few grains more powder for the same speed compared to hornady brass. As norma has a bigger case capacity.
