Rabbits in Tekapo / Wanaka

Morning team,

My mate and I are taking our partners down to Wanaka for the weekend and looking at going through Tekapo on Friday afternoon. We were hoping to gradually introduce them into hunting so thought we would start with rabbits and this would be a good opportunity.

Does anyone have any tips where we can pop a few in Tekapo or Wanaka. I imagine it will take a few shots for them to hit the target so somewhere with a few numbers would be great! I know were not meant to use rimfire on DOC land and I have a .223 but don't want to disturb the peace too much!

You help is much appreciated gents!

You will find it very diffucult to find access anywhere at the moment.

Lambing started just one week back in the Mackenzie.   Why dont you try for hares and wallabies on doc land with a .223.

Plenty of it about.

You must have a couple thousand hectares somewhere not being used Padox.  Grin

There is heaps of public land all over that has thousands of pesky hares on it. Hares are immune to everything except lead.

Cheers fellas, come to think of it DoC is the best option because of Lambing. Suggest any spots? I was up the Macaulay a year or so back and the ground was moving but then thats a bit of a task to get to in difficult weather.

Ps the cocky has some grazing rights on the lower bit where I suggested so you may come across some cattle.
