Blackbuck antelope

Fifty years ago I bought a pair of blackbuck horns from a Riccarton antique shop. I have been fascinated by them ever since, and finally (at age 80) decided to go after one.  Argentina is the only reasonable prospect. After research I decided to go to southern Buenos Aires, to the Dolores ranch of Cazaysafaris.  They are well recommended.  Why did I go? Because I have been a trophy hunter for over sixty years and my hunting interest is a love for the animals themselves. God's ultimate creature, to me is the Fallow buck. But a blackbuck might come second.
I only planned five days in Argentina and came a bit unstuck when they struck torrential rain south of Buenos Aires the week before I arrived.  The plains all flooded and the mud road to the ranch was impassable. But eventually determined staff got me there by a mix of horses, cart and small boat. The ranch (Pantanal) is superb. Grand old buildings with character. Dedicated staff.
The hunting was free range, high seat or spot & stalk.  I prefer spot & stalk, and my habit of getting out before daylight (except for fallow) paid off.  I shot a nice mature buck that was feeding at sunrise 200 metres from the  lodge tree windbreak.  A Dolores .308.  One of my lifetime thrills.

I believe the old Australian habit of poaching is necessary.
