I have noticed I have lost my avatar and then checked some old posts and seen all off my photos are blocked, check my photo bucket account and all seems OK there.
I have seen a few other photos with the same error message from other posters, problem here or in photo bucket end???

It looks like its a photo bucket thing trying to make you pay....
go to www.photobucket.com/p500
The only other option is to use one of ours avatars or move all your images to our image hut..

I went to read the updated terms of service and its still free to a certain level.. Heaps of annoying pop ups though, and slower than constipation.

Types of Accounts, Pricing and Limits

Visiting : There is no cost to visit the Site or to register as a Member.
Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account at any time.
Ad-free Account : The Ad-free Account offers Members the ability to use the Site without seeing any third party banner advertisements when logged into your Ad-free Account (note, viewers of your images within Photobucket will see ads unless they, too, have Plus accounts and you will continue to see Photobucket offers and announcements). This account level is available for $2.49 / month, payable by the Member on a monthly recurring basis.

The internet is alive with comment....  they actually want $us400 a year if you want to post on third party websites...

YEP, exactly, I have been reading a few blogs, a lot of unhappy punters world wide by the looks

from your link

•Available Plus Account Plans : Photobucket offers the following Plus Account Plans:

o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year.  The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.

o Plus 100 Plan: 102 GB of Storage for $99.99 / Year.  The Plus 100 Plan allows for unlimited image linking but does not allow 3rd party image hosting.

o Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year.  The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting

looks like a minimum of $399.99 per annum for 3rd party hosting (if that is required) and to restore images/photos by the looks, the only reason I opened an account was to put photos on this forum.

So Alan,
1-do we need image linking or 3 party image hosting??
2-can we edit old posts to update photo/image links if we change hosting sites??

Im working on it

iMAGE STORED AND POSTED FROM  http://imgbb.com/ ; AS vON gRUFF SUGGESTED. wORKS VERY WELL. Simple and almost add free.

From here on in It would be good policy to write all your posts on your normal word processor.. Word, Docs whatever with the photo links included and then copy and past the whole thing here to post a new thread.

Important would be to store the original photos you posted in your thread not only in your third party provider but also on you computer (backed up  Roll Eyes and/or onto a portable hard-disk or other backup medium. The cost of a terrabyte backup unit is now so low its worth buying one and connecting it to your compi for permanent backups.

If anyone need photos reposted in a thread  with new links talk to me.. Only important threads please, because although not diffucult, if everyone wants to do it its going to be a Monmouth task.

Can I transfer my hundreds of pics on photobucket back to be saved on my computer? A lot of them are only saved on photo bucket, and I don't have copies.

Also, I understand that you can only upload through here on f&h if you are a donator (of money). So its not too dissimilar to what photo bucket are doing? Yes?

I don't donate money to f&h and am reluctant to. It might sound precious but I figure I (and most) donate plenty through my contributions which in turn make the site attractive to advertisers.

IM in the same boat. The fact of the matter is, right not the site is in choas. One cant log in, it doesnt display properly, and if you get in it crashes sooner or later. You can down load in theory.

There facebook page indicates what a great business move this was. They may never recover.

The problem is that it costs money to host photos as they take up a lot of space...If I was to allow image hosting I would have to pay out at least another 100-200 a month.  Even now I'm faced with having to look at a bigger server to service the growing forum and I dont make any real money from the forum. Most months I'm paying for it out of my pension.... so cry if like but that's the reality of it..
I dont have a set fee on donations as I know quite a few are students etc but even 5.00 shows an appreciation and goes a little bit towards the server costs.  Some great members here that donate from 20.00 to 100 bucks and they are just brilliant and sooo much appreciated and that helps us have a low fee for the students.
If you want `image shop to work you need to help contribute so we can get a larger server.. . or pay $400.00 us$ a year to photobucket.   Smiley
Its a cruel world... and photobucket just made it crueler..

Alan, has Image-Hut on the Forum saved all the photos that
donor members have posted  using it?

I've stated this before, $50 annual donation = $1 per week
                                $25 annual donation = 50c per week
even I can afford that out of my pension, and well worth it.

This is all very disturbing  - and I don't know why ?

I opened a 'freebie account' with Photobucket and sent off two photos I would have liked to put on here, but they never got there, so I went 'Gold' on here to use Image-hut - but that has me equally buggered.
I guess that makes me a 'Technocantdo' which is disappointing - because for a short while I aspired to be a Technonerd.

f**kit - I'm biffing the camera and going back to the good old wood block prints.

That's different to how my wife's Scottish grandaddy said it - but then he was a MacBean which I believe is the rarest of the rare for the possible reason he was the only one who ever admitted being one.

I'm having trouble understanding any of it Alan.
I read Blackbunny's directions and got totally lost because I don't understand a lot of what he says.
For example, how wide is a pixel - I wouldn't have a clue - and he talks about stuff I never heard of.

I only have the two photos - wanted to put them in the BP section, but in truth they're pretty shabby photos.

And another truth is I don't mind if they don't get on there - and I didn't mind flicking you some dosh as it probably takes a few bob to run something like this.

I like my name in gold too - I feel more important somehow.

Not the first of these 'free' hosting sites to close or worse hold your photos to ransom.A curse of the digital age.

Either Image Hut which is linked at the top of this page in the dark colored bar.. or the one Von Gruff mentioned, which I joined and seems to work well.

http://imgur.com/n3mO2uf

Whats to say they dont do something similar to Photobucket in the future though, so,  certain is that from now on every image should be also saved on a seperate medium at home, the harddisk ok but must be backed up, one of the now cheap portable hard disks being a good choice. You can buy a terrabyte for $100 these days.

That way if the hard disk on you computer craps out or other compi problems youve still got all your pics.

I tried to download my pics from Photobucket yesterday. A single image worked but downloading the whole album didnt, probably because theres a million other people trying to do the same thing,,,,,  Roll Eyes

The photobucket thing has affected thousands of forums all over the world, not just hunting, you name a topic, there'll be a forum & the PB thing has buggered them all to a degree. Stamp collectors, vehicle how tos, hobby sites, history sites etc etc. nothing but cultural & social vandalism.  Angry
Word has it that most of their business comes from people who want to store their photos on line, in which case they won't be affected. I've my doubts about this. Either way, they appear to want to clear out the free loaders accounts. OK, if they'd given some warning & come up with some reasonable charges, many might have gone with them, but US$400 per annum & no warning other than a ransome demand, screw that. In the meantime, there're a heap of other hosting sites out there though how long they'll last for free if there is a domino effect who knows. Flickr is one mentioned quite oftem, Imgur as mentioned above, Postimage, Village photo, smugmug( they already charge but quite modestly) & others. In the meantime, if there're photphucket images you want to see, try the following.
Right click, view image or open image in a new tab, whatever your browser offers, then when that brings up the evil icon/PB ransome demand (they're holding your photos to ransome) do CTRL+F5, which will refresh your page & in most cases reveals the ransomed image, if you get gibberish, do it again, it normally works. Photobollux, screw them, bastards.
Steve.
