Have newly acquired a two for free which has caused a little marital discord.
Wondering about a general purpose deer bullet. Are 100gr a good std? Also thinking about 90gr hot core or 95gr sst.
Appreciate knowing what works well for you.

Run Hornady 95gr SST & Sierra 85gr Game King over ADI 2209 in my Ruger the SST will right off the front end of an animal great stopping power favorite load really, the 85gr GK are also very good on animals not quite as violent on impact but stop them well.

My Sako favors Hornady 87gr HPBT over a mild load of 2213sc extremely accurate and great stopping power was my go to for thar for many years.

Never had any problems with them myself from a few meters to 400+ hundred, just very destructive.
Will depend on your barrel to how heavy you can go, most do a standard sp 100gr fine, the longer match pills is where you may run into an issue.

Think way to much emphasis is put on different pills these days good old soft points or hollow points were used long before all these fancy poly tipped fandangled hi bc things were round and never failed generally cheaper to...

Thanks guys...I will get onto those 87gr govt as well. I have some fancy bullets for other cals that sit in the back of the drawer in favour of regular pills. I pull them out for a once a year tops hunt.

Good to the know..the blue box fed shoots good for most as well. Think I'll try the 90gr hot cor for a start. The rifle is a Ruger which I think is a 1-9 twist so might spin heavier ones for a play as well.
Thanks for input...Also good thread on the other site for 243 pills.
Cheers

It's a mk2 paddle stock...are they 1-10? If so would they best up to 90/95gr?

In general any hunting projectiles up to about 105gr weight should be fine in a MK2, if you try any of the heavy match pills is where it will start to chuck them about.

Hey @Rugersst what powder charge are you using for the ruger?
Im sitting between 41 and 42gr and the moment but still playing with the load also using 2209 and 95gr sst. Be keen to know where you got your sweetspot, also do you just seat to book COAL? I have been but thinking of moving it closer to the lands.

Ruger M77 MK2

Top of my head 42.5 (load note book is in NZ) it's a warm load but shoots well, as for seating I bought the rifle about 17 years back it came with a half box of SST pills and a dumby round which I have never measured just used...plus some 2209 I always used 2213sc before that in my Sako with great results.
2nd barrel in and I have changed nothing tried a shot for interest sake and all was good so re-sighted and away it went.
The 85gr Game kings I also use are 20 thou off the lans and shoot equally as good.

Pity they stopped making the Hornady 87gm BTHP. That was ans awesome round, accurate, killed everything from Bull Tahr to rabbits.
