Yep CFE223 is nice at near full throttle. I got better results with that and 85gr Sierra #1530 than with H335. More velocity before pressure signs.

Had a play with new the 62gr Barnes varmint grenade this morning. Nice results. Nice thing about this pill is that they a long so I can get them the recommended 0.050" off the lands and still have 7.7mm odd back in the case. COAL is 2.430"

I only got a sample pack of 15 and tried 3 powders, N133, H322 and H335.

I have new brass which I have put thru the AMP machine and annealed. Primers Fed match.

26gr of N133 gives nice velocity's but I really cant get enough in there to go beyond the 26gr which is about max anyway. Av for 4 shots was 3098fps with an es of 45.

26gr of H322 gave a nice 18mm 4 shot group but fps was down at 2961 with an es of 61. I could squeeze another 0.5grs in there but Quickload show pressure increases a lot after 26gr.

Again H335 came out on top in accuracy and speed. 28gr giving a little 12.19mm 4 shot group at 3160fps (which is about 70fps more than QL predicted). That is a good finish point and it was really only to get an idea.

With this new annealed brass I also finished off by loading the 27.5gr of H335 behind the #1510 Sierra 75gr pill. The first shot was out of the cold barrel and also after the 12 rnds of Barnes so that is likely why it went a bit higher than the others. Still the 5 shot group was 22mm and the last 4 shots went under 12.5mm. Speed was 2953fps

Im starting to like this rifle.

I'll get a box of these 62gr Barnes pills and load 'em up I think. Thats a nice speed and I do like the Barnes pills when they shoot good.

I have some CFE223 and 85gr Sierra's FB to try next

Had a quick intro into CFE223 and the 85gr #1520 Sierra.

Promise there too.

I think 29gr was getting near max. Fps at 2783.
28.5gr gave 2741fps av.

Both shot under 13mm 4 shot groups. Although I think the 29gr gave a nicer pattern and was sub .25MOA.

COAL was 2.480". About 0.015" off the lands.

I could prob get a little more than 29gr of CFE in there looking at the pressure signs. Maybe as much as 29.5

@Mathias I see from a couple of posts ago your CFE load is 27.8gr of CFE223 & 85gr HPBT Sierra gave 2880fps. Did you ever go higher than that? At 29gr I'm only starting to see pressure signs.

Been a while since I have played with the 6x45 and I can't recall going any higher, I'll consult my load book to see my comments. I'm at 2.3" OAL and hence I will have higher pressure than you at that length.

I have a 23" barrel so I'm picking up good speed there. Your speed & accuracy is pretty bloody good. The #1520 will have more bearing surface compared to the #1530 I'm using and could result a few less fps.

Keep posting the results, it's encouraging me to put my Grendel away and get the 6 back out  Wink

NOTE: Had a FUBAR with my Hornady OAL guage on the last outing. Turns out the 6x45 round that was used to make the case for the guage wasnt sized properly. I wondered why my last loads seemed rather long (by @ 0.05").

So I went back to the tried and true using the cleaning rod to measure COAL i/e to bolt face etc etc.

Forced me to check everything I have measured using that tool.

Found an interesting post showing various pills used in the 6x45 and how much room they take up inside the case compared to 223.

left to right; Hornady .223 Match 75 gr. HPBT, Sierra 6mm 70 gr. HPBT, Speer 6mm 75 gr. HP, Berger 6mm 80 gr. FB Varmint, Sierra 6mm 85 gr. HPBT. (GameKing) The 6mm 85 gr. GameKing is actually .020" shorter than the Hornady .223 75 gr. HPBT.

The Hornady 6mm 87 gr. HPBT is even shorter than the 75 gr. .223.

Just checked my load book and I went as far as 28.3gr CFE223 for 2918fps and had a note saying very flat primers & some cratering. Better accuracy at 27.8  Smiley

I took my cooper to 28.5 with the 85gr and CFE.223 and
29gr with the 75 & 80 gr, think thats about max, very flat primers, and intrestingly you can hear the note change, in the rifle, almost started ringing, if that makes any sence,
My info is a few pages back, but think i settled for, 1g less than that,
Nothing wrong with a 80-85gr at 2850.

For reference, Ive just croneyed a load in my 6x47 Remington (.222 magnum/6mm) Cooper single shot M22.
30gr CFE.223 with a 70 B-tip giving 3050fps, 22" tube, pretty flat primers.
How you like that Annealing machine, I'm think of upgrading from a gas torch,

Firstly the AMP machine is the ducks nuts. Can do heaps of brass in no time and there is no comparison. Local supply cant keep up with demand in the USA.

I just tinkered a bit more with my seating depth now I have my COAL sorted properly.

With the CFE223 and 85gr #1520 pills Im now at 2.370".

I shot 3 x 3shot groups this morning at 28.3/28.5/28.7.  Below is a pic of all 3 groups superimposed. They all went in the same general area with the 28.7gr group making a 12.19mm group more towards the centre axis than the others.

Average FPS for the 28.7gr load was 2766. Total FPS range for all 9 shots was 2715-2810 and they all went into a 9 shot group measuring 23.3mm.

I loaded 3x3shots of H335  with the #1510 75gr pills.
Again, this load does really well. Settled for 27.4gr max today giving av. 2974 COAL 2.343" and 3 shots went 9.8mm.

Side note on my brass. I'm using Lapua 223 match run thru the die. H2O capacity = 30.66gr.

The Federal stamped FC = 31.7 but is not as consistent.

Loaded up 5rnds of each of the following load in the 2 types of brass today [Laupua and FC]

27.5gr H335 #1510 projectile COAL = 60mm/2.362"
Fed match primers.

Results were pretty good with the FC winning out. Which is good cause I have 250 bits of FC brass annealed/sized/primed ready to load.

Shot both loads out to 200yards. I will say it was challenging to get a good sight picture. I used one of those 3" black dots. Had the scope of 12 power but wasn't ideal. Still, happy with the results.

FC brass shot a 5 shot 31.6mm group av fps 2929 (sd = 13.8)
Lapua brass shot a 5 shot 44.3mm group av fps 2963 (sd = 13.7)

Think I will stop these for now. I'm not going to get into neck tensions and fine tuning my loads at that end. I can use the RCBS powder thrower and be pretty confident Im going to get loads well under MOA all day long.

Next I am moving on to the 62gr Barnes Varmint grenade. They showed real promise.

I'm loving H335 powder too. Seems to be the best of the 7 I've tried so far being RL10x/H322/BM2/ADI2206H/CFE223/N133

As I think I have mentioned , I found H335 best for up to 75gr projectiles and after that CFE223 gave better returns before pressure signs.
Keep us posted.

Very good info here for budding 6x45 owners  Wink

Yeah, I haven't played that much with the CFE223 yet. It looks promising.

I like how this rifle is set up i.e the reamer they used is perfect for the 75gr #1510 pill. 27.5 H335 fills the case 96%. 95% of the powder getting burned in the first 14" apparently.

Managed to smoke 2 hares this evening both at 240yds.

How'd you get on?

.

I had a play with a dozen 87gr Berger VLDs and the CFE223. I didnt crony them but QL predicts they would be clipping 2717fps. Was surprised how much powder I got in there and didn't show any real pressure signs (28.4gr load), could have gone higher than I did.

I shot them straight out to 200yds. Nothing to write home about in terms of accuracy. Not a projectile I will be playing with I just had a few lying around.
