Mountain man, ex deer culler, possum trapper and a great man to boot.
Farewell Uncle Jim, I will miss those hunting yarns and looking over all your photos of "the good old days"
Peace for you now in those hunting fields beyond.
Your nephew Andrew.

Thanks TH for that post. I particularly like this photo as its taken the year I was born and I have spent many nights in this very hut. In fact Jim's fathers name (my grandfather) is inscribed inside the hut from his days as a musterer.

Rip Jim. Another culler and lover of the mountains gone. Not many of us NZFS cullers left! gulp! Let alone the Internal affairs cullers.. I'm sure Taurarua Hunter will put up an obituary when its done..

Did Jim do a stretch at Waiterere in the late 1970's?

No I don't think so. He culled from 1955-65, then a short stint as a park ranger down Fiordland before heading to the UK. Settled in Wanaka 72-now.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing.  I had many things I would have loved to have asked but the chance never came.  Kindest thoughts and regards to Jim's family and all the deer culler family who will be mourning this great guys passing.
