Donations from forum members has picked up, thanks heaps guys
If we are successful, the LNIRDF believe the decision should see a fairer consideration of DOCs obligations to consider recreational hunting and to consult, in future when renewing concessions for WARO deer recovery.
Senior DOC managers have already apologized to hunters, in not consulting regarding major changes they made  that negatively impacted on rec hunters.

DOC intends to run an extensive consultation NZ wide on the future management of WARO and the respective roles of the deer recovery industry and recreational hunting in deer management. I gather external facilitators will be engaged to run this process.

Along with the Ruahine deer working group DOC facilitates currently things appear to be changing for the better

Hi Hamish
The current legal challenge is aimed at getting DOC to return to the original WARO permit conditions and area open to them.. The Judicial review can only seek that.

term recognition of recreational hunting built into DOC strategies and policies. (Deer as a Game Animal). Part of this, is agreement on what levels deer densities should be kept at, and how that should be managed.
This will remove the ongoing uncertainty on what DOC will decide re deer control and the attempts to remove hard won exclusions of WARO

What will the Ruahines looks like in the end? Rec hunting without the effects of WARO removing deer, where that activity isn't justified..

One option is a Herd Of Special Interest, managed by recreational hunting. That's a decision the rec hunting fraternity

The working group seem to agree that the outcome could become am model for other places in NZ
The need to control impacts from deer on the conservation values will always be the bottom line, but its becoming clear theres agreement that deer and conservation have to exist together, and its pointless to expect that  ever single native species needs to be saved from deer. Some of the juiciest native plants will never regenerate widely, unless deer are almost exterminated.  DOC have been positive and pretty open to options, and  on the working group. fair way still to go, yet though

I've seen the give away Bark River knife.  Smiley
Brand spanking new from the States, and its a real ripper.

All you need to do is give a small (or as big as you like) donation to the Foundation before the end of the month and you are in for the draw. Its restricted to this forum, so you have great odds on winning.

Go to the top of this thread for instructions on how to donate, and a pic of the knife.  Cool

Ive just moved to Wellington, so have been doing a bit of researching and saw this LNIRDF action. Pretty cool to see a formal organised approach! Put some money through, hopefully aim to join the club in a few weeks, and get out exploring some of the Tararuas soon. Cheers, James.
