once your stung by it, knock off the stalks and hairs on the stem and then cut and split a section of it open and rub the sap on the effected area, seems to work for me

Try kawakawa. Charlie Janes raised this with us 2 weekends ago because it was certainly very frequent in the Ureweras where we were.Lovely , green, vibrant and plenty of it to snare the unwary along the river margins. The vernacular announced a victim. Grin

I have a feeling it is just the stinging nettle you can do that with. I sure wouldn't want to boil those spiky leaves on the Ongaonga. Some might come off in the water and get all stabby in ya inside bits  Smiley Smiley

I reckon this stuff has a secret or magic property that attracts deer that have been shot. I've proven this many times. Has anyone else noticed it? If there is any around thats where they always seem to end up - in a shitty wet gully full of stinging nettle.

In cheese making, nettle is only used as a vegetarian rennet to separate the curds and whey - and I believe this is the stinging nettle from your garden not ongaonga.

You are probably right mate, all I know is that it was good to eat. A mate of mine used to buy it in bulk, couple of beers and a slab of cheese, beautiful.
