Try a cochy bondhu, originally a beetle pattern but works where fish are feeding on snails. There are other specific patterns for snails but haven't used them.

tie it sort of ball-ish....small twitch when the trout approaches

Some roosters reackon that something like a wooly bugger tied small (10 -12 ish) is like a snail in mid water (swimming??) around the lake edges..

having said all that, i never tried it either.
