Wow... The young fella is going to be buzzing about this. He has had an amazing couple of weeks. Thanks to all those people who donated prizes. The hunting reports section is the engine room of the forum I reckon and the more we can encourage reports the better. Some great stories were entered and I thought Leos first stag write up was awesome.
Thanks again to HC for organising, HC, nik, TJ, X-poacher, 7m08 for sponsoring.... Bloody legends. Flynns going to think its xmas. The loopy will be going on his .243 to replace the Bushnell which is a very average scope.
My Poppa left me a couple of guns when he died... one of them "the Browning" has a fearsome reputation and I always was fascinated with it when I was growing up. He also left me his -ex-army .303 which he was issued with when he was in the homeguard. He was a farmer on a big lot of land so I am pretty sure the story is he tried to enlist for WW2 but they wouldn't let him go due to the big land holding? Anyway ... I think I might send one of those two off to TJ to get a bit of TLC mainly for sentimental reason. My Poppa was a lengend.
Thanks again. I think I will video Flynns reply and stuck it on here.

I'll pm Mike for his address details to get his sub entered into our database and fuel vouchers posted out!
….The hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaude or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his act, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers….
Surprised at the lack of interest this year, but there still seemed to be quite a few guys out getting into the roar hunting?
From a few conversations, some of the regular hunters/contributors (myself included) felt the comp was ideal for those younger and less experienced members.
You really only needed to read some of the hunt reports from this years various rut periods to see that many members experienced some awesome times and some wonderful results.

Yeah I felt a bit the same way, but more entries would improve quality and numbers of members interested in participating or voting would it not? There's nothing stopping someone posting a report in both though

I chucked my report up in both, that way the majority of people get to have a gander at it in the reports section to see the interesting bits and pieces and to bump up numbers in the comp. Its pretty gloomy having just one or two entries in it, the more the better I reckon.

Could this mean that there are hundreds if not thousands of joe public reading these threads, ie the hunt reports section etc and maybe not that many actual forum members doing so?
I have no idea, but it seems strange to see hundreds if not thousands of views on some reports and only a very limited number of comments.

To get people to become members of the forum and contribute something. It costs nothing and benefits the advertisers. Why would we let anyone who contributes nothing get everything for free.

Plenty of scabs out there who give nothing back just trolling through here for info and places to hunt.
Can guarantee that every report posted where the location is given away or is able to be guessed will attract hunters to that spot that never would have gone there other wise
Despite the rising cost of living it still remains popular

I am of the opinion that anyone who gets useful advice or simply enjoyment from reading reports on here owes us nothing. Anything I have posted on here that I think might be of use to someone is for anyone to see not just members.
Visitors see the advertisements regardless of if they are a member or not so there is no additional benefit for advertisers and seeing the richer content on here like the reports is what made me join and start contributing in the first place.
I like it being public, nothing to hide around here.

I'm all for helping guys out with info and spots in fact you would have to go a long way to find someone that has helped more people with info, tips and spots to hunt with detailed maps etc than me but..... I'm only willing to help out those that show a bit of enthusiasm and initiative not those that just sit back and bludge everything they can get.
I've been talking to a few other members recently about starting a thread to help out a young hunter with no roll model or anyone to show them the ropes. An apprentice type thing, Watch this space

Exactly madness. I have done the same. If Alan could say we have 10,000 registered members then it would make an huge difference to the forum. Instead there is no reason to contribute.

bloody good to see hairy's boy getting a few prizes. that should suss him out for a while. there are a few good buggers on this forum alright!
I would have put my report up but I just put it in the reports section as it was more about my learning about sika than anything of any size being taken..didnt think it was worthy.
Jesus H CHrist.... I just got some batteries for that torch and nearly burnt a hole in the F'n curtains... That is an insane bit of kit. I feel a bit like Luke Skywalker carrying that around. Will be far to dangerous for Flynn to have all the time.... I will need to take care of it till he is old enough.

Actually I have been going to set up a young hunters thread but keep forgetting to do it.... Im wondering if we make it that only a certain age and under can post and then what age would that be...
I see you have set one up that only under 16s can access and post in, what percentage of our members are under that age?
It might be fairly limited on value compared to the ideas raised above of a place for younger members to ask for advice/a hunting buddy tht can be accessed by all members.
Although they obviously can do so in the other forums if they choose.

yere I was thinking they can do that now in any of the sections... but I was thinking they can chat in their TXT language to their hearts content in a forum where young hunters are talking as opposed to the chatter in a main forum... maybe Im wrong but we do have a lot of young members...
I was thinking more along the lines of a mentor/apprentice type thing where you take a new guy under your wing who has no one to show them the ropes and give them a running start rather than stumbling along for years making basic mistakes and getting disharted

There is a big void there for some of our urban kids madness. We are really a semi rural town and we have heaps of kids screaming to take them out... Imagine what it would be like in large urban areas.
