Budget 600 dollars Caliber 30 06 (federal 150grn) Point : have spare rifle and set of 25mm rings so want to turn it into a medium range critter killer. Looking for ideas on what fixed power scopes you guys have used and could recommend for under $600
Cheers,Stalker
Caliber choice comes down to the basics of drag racing... No replacement for displacement!
Bushnell Elite 10x40 is one I can remember with a 1" tube. 259 USD. (and the only one that I´ve owned)
Old Tasco super snipers also had 1" tube 10x42
Sightron S2 36x42
Weaver K 8x56 and Weaver T 24x40 and 36x40
I have had the Bushnell Elite and Weaver T and the Bushy was a nice little scope, If you could accept a change to 30mm rings you would have a broader choice of scopes (including the SWFA range of fixed scopes, that is if you can sneak them out of the US)

I've got a FX3 6x42 on my .308 - it's a great little unit
Good for me on deer sized critters out to 300m or so, haven't tried it any further but It might be ok.
It's a good compromise, 6x power isn't too bad if something pops up much closer.
I've also got a schmidt and bender 8 x 56 on my .223 which is good for headshooting roos under lights, but is also good on open county fallow -optics are absolutely superb, but its a big heavy lump of thing though

the problem of striking a balance between close and medium range performance - if you go to far one way you make it harder at the other end .. . i've used 2.5X 4X 6X 8X scopes and would have to give the 6X the nod for general shooting . .. its to easy to say more is better thinking of the longer shots when mostly its the up close shots that present themselves more often than not
if you just wanted something different i would go with the 10X bushnell tactical scope and get into dialup and using mildots
If you are considering the Leupy's, a couple of stockists have the FX-3 6x42 for $699. I paid nearly 8hundy for mine a few years ago. I've got 6's on everything and like them...it stops me trying to take stupidly long shots instead of sneaking a bit closer. FWIW. Cheers-Graham.

Falcon 10 x42. 30mm tube and a very nice ballistic reticule. Mil / Mil turrets and enough dial up to get a .308 out to 1000mtrs Side focus , re settable zero, good glass for the money. The Bushnell 10x is ok but from memory it's Mildot reticule with MOA turrets, doesn't really work. Ive got one of the Falcons on my .223, hitting rabbits at 350mtrs so far with no problems, be an awesome scope on deer etc. Very clear and if you use the free ballistic calculator Strelok the reticule is on their list, make's shooting very easy at distance as you can dial up or use hold over with the ballistic reticule. I am finding my eye's are getting older and may go to vari power scope for rabbits, could be for sale, not sure, pm me if your interested.
