no it was mid winter at the time.
the old man would not let me shoot it at first .

because we couldn't sell the deer Dad wanted every deer left alive for spring when we could get them out to the chiller.
it was across the river from the hut.

we ate that blasted deer till it was no more.
made a break from eating possums.

John and Jerry were maniacs , real wild boys .

I wish I could do it all over again but with what I know now .
so many wild characters in those days all trying to make living poaching off each other lol

every now and again it would be off  to the working mans club in Minganui  all these burly dudes getting steamed up.
Us folks from the Ruatahuna side were welcome, I was a wide eyed 15 year old  and these guys were all my heros .
