hey mate I've got a 2.7l 98 surf had it for 3 years now and have done just over 60k during that time, mechanically wise shes been a gem only spent $200 on repairs the whole time I've owned it. but as you will probably be aware its the fuel consumption lets it down,  i'm getting about 8L/100km for my general weekly driving and about 9L/100km on long road drives (this is with new A/T tyres) if I could do it again I reckon i'd make the same choice for the main reasons of

-great pickup on the open road has no troubles getting to 140km/h (if required)

-no worry about diesel kms or the larger bill at rego time

-cheaper cost of vehicle (well it was when I brought it)

Very reliable engine.
We see very few, that come through work, with any issues.
On very high k engines, the timing chain can get a bit rattlely.
Fuel consumption isn't the best, but is much better than a V6.

You sure about those numbers  Huh
I've had one for a few years, 1996 SSRX. Great engines  never had any trouble. Mate has the exact same except diesel. Running costs seem a little in favour of the petrol but, less servicing and cheaper rego/RUC's.  Over the last couple of years ive got around 10L per 100km. Standard tyres etc.
