Anyone had experience with their lever vice going BANG when squeezing the lever to insert a hook..... the actual head and broke off..
In a lifetime of flytying Ive never seen that before..... naturally no one wants to know as its about 5 years old...

You are supposed to have soft hands like a surgeon. My son just cranks out the nymphs on a cheapie. Straight jaws. Grin

Yep, happened to me last winter, was closing the jaws and kaboom one of the jaws of the head broke off.

H&F were good about replacing it, got a better model now.

most of this gear is made in India, seems that the suppliers contract out the brass castings to small foundries.
Ive seen several that have broken, when you look closely you can see bubbles / shit in the brass.
They are recycling old brass and its not being cleaned.

Yep I have seen two gone like that. I believe that one brand is a cheap copy of a quality brand but I cannot recall which way round it goes - one is a Regal, the other a Regent. My mates one flew to bits on him like that a couple years ago - lucky he was wearing big thick specs cos a piece of the jaw hit his glasses.
